How can I borrow books?

If you want to ensure the availability of the book you are interested in, submit a loan request through the Minerva catalogue: log in with your University mail credentials, search for the book, check that it is lendable, and submit your request.

You can only collect the material after receiving a confirmation email from the library.

If you are in the library, you can take the book directly from the shelves or ask for it at the reception desk.

To register the loan, you can ask the staff at the circulation desk or use the self-loan device with your Carta La Statale yourself.

Book pick-up by a third party is only possible with a written proxy and a copy of the delegating party's ID.

The loan service is restricted to the following user categories:

  • University of Milan users (students, doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, researchers, lecturers, University’s teaching staff and technical-administrative staff);
  • users from affiliated universities or institutions;
  • external users registered at the library and holding a guarantee form (malleveria) signed by a member of the university teaching staff.

To learn how to log in, search for books, articles and journals, and submit loan requests, watch our video tutorials or contact the librarians.

For further details, see the Borrowing: general information page on the University Library Service Portal.
